FROM THE PRINCIPAL
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:26-28
This past Sunday, our second graders received the sacrament of First Holy Communion. They were dressed in their finest: boys in suits, girls in white dresses. Our church was full: parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers and friends. The table was set and we celebrated, together, the wonderous occasion when the students first accepted the Eucharist, the body of Christ; the most important step on their long journey of faith development – it was joyous!
As we welcome our 2nd graders to the table, for the first time, it is important for all of us to remember the importance of celebrating the gift of Jesus Christ through communion, often. For it is in this most sacred moment that our faith is deepened and Christ remains alive within us.
APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH!
From the Archdiocese of Louisville:
“Did you know that every adult has a moral responsibility to report suspected child abuse? In Kentucky, state law requires that any person who knows or has reasonable cause to believe that a child is neglected or abused must immediately report the abuse. Sexual abuse of minors is a pervasive societal problem, and only concerted and sustained efforts by all adults in every segment of society can help to protect children and youth. Report suspected abuse. Call the toll-free Kentucky Child Abuse Hotline at 877-KYSAFE1 (877-597-2331) or see www.archlou.org/report for a list of reporting contacts organized by county.”

ACE DAY
ACADEMIC CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT (ACE) day is coming up on May 24, 2023. Volunteers are needed to help with monitoring session presenters, hall supervision, outside runners, etc. Please sign up at the link below!
What is ACE Day?
Together with their teachers, staff and administrators the Ascension students work hard throughout the school year to meet academic goals. To celebrate their accomplishments and further their academic experiences Ascension provides students with an end of the year day of academic curriculum enhancement known as ACE day. On this day students participate in special activities and presentations lead by members of the Ascension community and local organizations.
The Ace planning committee organizes sessions in various areas of interest such as a presentation from the planetarium, a visit from the police and fire departments, an introductory Karate class, yoga, arts and crafts, cooking, soccer, archery, magic tricks, science experiments, pet training and much, much more. Students are given the opportunity to sign up for sessions that interest them. They will spend the day moving from one activity to another. ACE day is an exciting day for students and a great way to end the school year.

BOX TOPS COLLECTION
Did you know that Ascension is a Box Tops school? During this challenging time, our teachers and students need more help than ever. No matter what school looks like, Box Tops for Education is a fast and easy way for you to help out from home.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and automatically adds Box Tops to your school’s earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Twice a year, our school gets a check!
The PTO uses money earned from Box Tops to fund our iPad program and other classroom needs for our students!
Here’s how YOU can help earn money for our school!
• DOWNLOAD the Box Tops app and select our school to support. This ensures that your Box Tops purchases count toward our school’s earnings.
• SHOP for Box Tops products and use the app to scan your receipt to add to our school’s earnings online.
• LOOK for any remaining Box Tops clips on packages. If you find some, clip them and send them to school!
• SPREAD THE WORD about Box Tops!
FUN TIP: You can also use the “Invite Friends” feature in the app to ask friends and family to help support our school!
Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. So let’s give our teachers the support they need and help give more kids the opportunity to dream. Little by little, we can help make a BIG difference.
